it's raining, it's pouring

Trust me, if Mary had a choice then she wouldn’t have been here. She wouldn’t have een working at all, actually, because she found it easier to focus on college and rely on her mum than trying to balance all of her classes and activities along with a work schedule. Unfortunately her rich mommy thought that she needed to learn how to work for her earnings and cut her off for a year. Mary was exhausted, physically and mentally, and all she wanted to do was get more than a few hours of sleep each night.
She worked as a barista in New Rome’s coffee shop Caffeina’s Hideaway, usually handing making the coffee, but also occasionally manning the register because of her superb arithmetic skills. The hustle and bustles of idiots ranging from every age and took way too long to order could really wear out a girl on a normal day, but today was especially terrifying. It was raining, and the cashier that was supposed to work that day had caught the flu. So on top of being especially tired and sassy, Mary also had to work both the coffee machines and the register. It wasn’t as bad when she finally worked out a system, but that didn’t mean that it didn’t suck.
“Welcome to Caffeina’s, how may I help you?” Her British accent was also a bit monotone when at work, but they didn’t pay her enough to speak like she cared.

Nearly gasping when she heard the voice, Mary automatically scowled and glanced up from the register. If it was Killian Andorra, her...archenemy? Crush? Bane to her existence? Boyfriend? Gods, she didn’t even know anymore. The last thing she wanted to deal with today was him, because he made her feel stupid if she looked at him too long. His eyes were too pretty. His hair was too perfect. He had that stupid French accent that made her want to strangle him but kiss him at the same time. Mary almost hated herself for how much she liked(?) this guy that didn’t even wear shoes, like that was disgusting.
“I’m not shooting for one of you stupid films, Killian. They’re pointless and idiotic and I’m still wondering why you haven’t given up yet.” Mary clipped automatically. On the giving up part, she wasn’t sure if she was referring to his films or their love-hate relationship. “...And that would probably be the Spicy Swirl Latte. It has cayenne pepper in - Gods, why am I even entertaining this!” Another thing he made her do was talk a lot and frustrate herself. He was an evil, evil son of Nemesis, Mary was convinced.
